Criminal Justice - Associates of Applied Science

As the concern about crime increases, the public is looking for possible solutions for prevention of it. To lower the crime rate, however, there must be an understanding of the criminal mentality and how to properly rehabilitate offenders. The Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice program focuses on crime, law enforcement, correction, and the criminal justice system. The program provides an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the mechanisms of social control and resolution of criminal justice problems, including currently accepted procedures of resolution. The curriculum is designed to offer a balance of theory and application that will prove to be challenging to students, and useful in the field. The program includes classes such as Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Investigation and Police Procedures, Criminal Evidence, Criminal Procedure, Criminology, Introduction to Corrections, Juvenile Delinquency, and Criminal Justice Report Writing.

Paralegal - Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal provides students with a basic background and knowledge of the American legal system and the necessary research skills needed to assist with the preparation of legal documents and briefs. The program prepares students to research legal issues, draft legal documents, prepare pleadings, summarize documents, organize trial notebooks, and interview clients. The program provides students with both a practical and theoretical education in the legal profession. Students will be able to use their knowledge of law and legal procedures to assist lawyers, clients, and courts in the areas of interviewing; gathering, reviewing, and analyzing fact situations; researching the law; and preparing and interpreting legal documents.
