The criminal justice program provides you with the skills necessary to maintain law and order, protect life and property, and conduct administration, planning and research services. It is designed to prepare you for a career in corrections, criminology, forensic sciences, law enforcement, immigration and security administration.
You will gain excellent communication, critical-thinking, research and organizational skills in the specialized areas of this curriculum, providing you with the foundation required to build a successful career in this field.
Paralegals, under the direction of a lawyer, use their knowledge of law and legal procedures to assist lawyers, clients, and courts in the areas of interviewing, gathering, reviewing, and analyzing fact situations, researching the law, and preparing and interpretating legal documents. Paralegals find employment opportunities in law firms, state and federal government agencies, corporate legal departments, insurance companies, banks, title companies and legal aid societies.
The paralegal program also focuses on aspects in the legal field including contracts. Students learn the formation of contracts, breach of contracts and remedies for breach of contracts. Other areas of focus include a course in estate planing, wills, trusts, estate taxes, estate sales, joint tenancy and judicial determination of death. Family law and criminal law courses are also taught.
