Fremont College's innovative legal practice technology allows students to make an immediate contribution in the legal workplace. We offer an Associate of Arts degree that is approved by the American Bar Association (ABA). Our paralegal program includes the required clock hours for the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) examination given by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA). Program benefits include:
Students are prepared to grasp legal concepts and engage in legal analysis. These skills are especially helpful for paralegals interested in critical, law-defining cases such as appeals and other high court decisions. The ABA approves our Paralegal Studies degree program and reviews its compliance each year. The program builds on core fundamentals taken early in the program. For example, students are introduced to the legal industry, the court system, and the synthesis of lawyers and paralegals in the workplace.
The duties of a paralegal depend on the position. Paralegals work under supervision of an attorney, but they can perform legal work themselves. Legal research and writing are two of the most common paralegal tasks, but paralegals are often responsible for many other tasks, including case management and organization. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the paralegal career field is one of the fastest-growing careers of the decade.
Fremont College offers general education classes as part of the Paralegal Studies Degree, which helps students prepare for a law-oriented career. Very strong communication, organization, and English writing and grammar skills are necessary for success in the legal field. Fremont helps students gain proficiency in these general education areas and trains them to become successful researchers, technologists and collaborators in the workplace.
