Associate of Applied Science - Criminal Justice (Online)

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Criminal Justice program will provide students with an understanding of the theories underlying the three main components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement; judicial systems; and correctional modalities within the context of social and political sciences.

Methods and applications of these three areas will be emphasized throughout the course work along with the intersections of their functions. The required general education course work will further develop the students' critical thinking and problem solving skills, which will be enhanced throughout their technical course work.

Program graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions in a range of criminal justice positions including:

  • Corrections officers
  • Private security
  • Protective services
  • Private investigator positions

They will also have the foundation to pursue further study in social science or legal course work.

Bachelor's of Applied Science - Criminal Justice (Online)

The objective of the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program is to provide an understanding of the theories underlying law enforcement, judicial systems, and correctional modalities within the context of social sciences. The required general education coursework enhances students' critical thinking and problem solving skills. Program graduates prepare for entry-level positions and advancement opportunities in a range of criminal justice positions including corrections officers, private security, protective services and investigator positions. The program provides a foundation for supervision, management, and leadership.

Employment as a law enforcement officer may require additional training as determined by your state's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The criminal justice program at Globe University/Minnesota Minnesota School of Business does not fulfill Minnesota POST requirements; however, it does qualify in some other states.

The goal of this program is to prepare graduates who are able to:

  • Describe the societal influences on and the interaction among the three components of the criminal justice system
  • Identify the key elements of an investigation
  • Explain the theories of criminal behavior
  • Analyze the balance between the needs of offenders versus the needs and expectations of the community
  • Demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills
  • Evaluate the quality of multiple viewpoints, arguments, and evidence and distinguish between fact and opinion
  • Exhibit social responsibility and examine the diverse cultures and value systems of our global community
  • Analyze the complexities of the American correctional system as they relate to treatment, counseling, probation, parole and victimology
  • Compare and contrast management and leadership skills
  • Develop strategies to make ethical decisions in the workplace

Associate in Applied Science or Certificate - Paralegal (Online)

The Associate in Applied Science program provides comprehensive paralegal training that allows graduates to assume entry-level positions in the field under the supervision of an attorney, assisting in the delivery of legal services.

The program provides evidence of competencies in communications, social sciences, humanities and fine arts, analytical and inferential reasoning, ethical situations, and computational skills as well as the ability to learn on one's own.

Bachelor of Science - Paralegal (Online)

The Bachelor of Science program provides comprehensive paralegal training that allows graduates to work under the supervision of an attorney and assist in the delivery of legal services.

This program furthers the students' understanding, theory and practical course work, allowing for a knowledge in legal specialty areas and issues such as:

  • Advanced computer-assisted research
  • Chronological organization of events and issues in a case
  • Checklist and procedure preparation for an appellate case
  • Comparison of client and expert investigative interviews

The program provides evidence of competencies in communications, social sciences, humanities and fine arts, analytical and inferential reasoning, ethical situations, and computational skills as well as the ability to learn on one's own.

Accreditation

Minnesota School of Business is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to award diplomas, Associate of Applied Science degrees, Bachelor of Science degrees and master's degrees. Additionally, Minnesota School of Business is licensed as private career schools with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
