The objective of the Legal Assistant program is to prepare
students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits
required for an entry-level position in the legal assisting
field. Through specialized coursework, students are prepared to
assist legal professionals. Students have an opportunity to apply
classroom knowledge to actual work experience while serving a
legal externship. Graduates of the Legal Assistant program may be
employed as paralegals, legal secretaries, administrative
assistants and title abstractors in law firms, private attorneys'
offices, courthouses, government agencies, insurance companies
and legal departments of companies.
Graduates of this program may be required by the employer to
prepare and file various court pleadings and non-court documents
and instruments. Additionally, duties may include preparation of
intra-office memoranda of law, memoranda of points and
authorities, appellate briefs and other legal writing. The
assistant also may interview and screen clients, research
property titles, and engage in general legal research including
computer-assisted research. General office support functions may
also be expected and required.
The length of the Legal Assistant program is seven quarters
culminating in 97.5 quarter credit hours.
Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice

The objective of the Criminal Justice program is to provide
students with an in-depth knowledge of criminal justice with
emphasis in the areas of corrections, probation and parole,
juvenile delinquency, criminal behavior, crime and loss
prevention, corporate security, and law enforcement (may require
additional academy training). The program also prepares students
with the aspects of criminal behavior, legal theory, and law
enforcement procedures enabling graduates to go on to pursue
careers in law enforcement, investigation, and security.
Graduates of the Criminal Justice program may seek employment in
corrections, crime and loss prevention, law enforcement, and
other areas. Graduates working in corrections may monitor
inmates, assist parolees in re-entering society, or do counseling
work to rehabilitate prison inmates or troubled youth. Graduates
may be employed in loss prevention positions with many private
industries, including working in special units implementing
systems to guard against theft and system abuse or to protect
confidential information and property. Graduates employed in law
enforcement positions may have duties that vary widely by the
size and type of organization, but most spend considerable time
writing reports and maintaining records that are needed in legal
actions.
The length of the program is seven quarters culminating in 102.0
quarter credit hours. Upon successful completion of the program,
graduates will be awarded an Associate of Arts degree.
Associate of Applied Science in Computer Forensics

The Computer Forensics program is designed to provide students
with skills in the area of criminology, data recovery, computer
operating systems, network security, encryption, cybercrime
investigation, the collection and analysis of computer based
evidence, ensuring the integrity of the chain of evidence, and
preparing evidence for presentation in a court of law. Students
will gain experience with professional investigative software and
evidence gathering in the computer lab. Students must pass a
criminal background check prior to the start of classes.
Graduates of this program will be qualified to obtain employment
locally and nationally as a security coordinator, investigator,
computer forensics specialist, intrusion detection analyst,
network security analyst, security specialist, etc.
The length of the program is 7 quarters over a period of 21
months. Students must complete the program with a minimum of
103.5 quarter credit hours.
