Concord Law School of Kaplan University

The best law school may be the one that comes to you

Founded in 1998, Concord Law School was the first institution to offer a Juris Doctor (JD) degree earned wholly online. After merging with Kaplan University in the fall of 2007, it is now the only online law school with prestigious regional accreditation. See our website for details.

Concord provides a rigorous, comprehensive legal education with curricula that lead to either a JD or Executive JDSM degree.* Instruction is theoretical and practical, emphasizing a critical understanding of how the law functions in society, and how lawyers function within the legal system. This flexible, user-friendly online platform is ideal for students who lack the time or resources required to make law school their only priority.

Concord Law School serves a diverse body of students from all 50 states and a number of foreign countries. Forty percent of students already have advanced degrees prior to beginning their legal education. There is no typical Concord student—classes include educators, small business owners, CEOs, physicians, bankers, military officers, dentists, consultants, accountants, sales representatives, engineers, stay-at-home parents, and more.

Juris Doctor

The Juris Doctor program at Concord is a four-year, part-time program that is designed to help students with the following:

  • Develop the abilities, skills, and perspectives in legal fundamentals, professional and practical skills, and critical thinking skills.
  • Develop the skills required to analyze a client's presenting legal dilemma across a wide range of legal disciplines; research applicable case, statutory and regulatory law; develop an appropriate legal strategy to resolve the problem; fully represent clients; and understand the responsibility to comport themselves at all times with civility towards the court and bar, upholding their moral and ethical duties as lawyers.
  • Prepare student to meet the legal education requirement of the Committee of Bar Examiners, State Bar of California.

Graduates are eligible to apply to sit for the California bar examination. Upon passing the bar examination and fulfilling other statutory requirements, graduates become eligible to practice law in the State of California. Concord's Juris Doctor alumni may also apply to practice before most federal and other governmental agencies.

Beyond the traditional practice of law, a licensed attorney has the knowledge, skills, and credentials for employment in a spectrum of career opportunities.†
