The Academy of Court Reporting & Technology was founded in
1970 as a court reporting school. From 1970 to 1984, the Academy
built a national reputation for producing outstanding reporters
and placing them throughout the United States. In 1984, because
of increasing demand for qualified paralegals and legal
secretaries, the Academy expanded its vision to include these
areas. In 2001, the growth and need for investigative and
security specialists pointed the Academy toward the development
and implementation of its security & investigation program.
In 2006, the Academy became a subsidiary of Delta Career
Education Corporation. In 2008, the Academy initiated an
expansion of its offerings to serve the needs of the business and
healthcare community and to provide increasing employment
opportunities for its graduates.

basic office skills necessary to perform administrative, clerical
and legal duties in the modern law office. Graduates may pursue

Court Reporting - Associate of Applied Business

The program prepares individuals as verbatim court reporters and
provides students with the knowledge and skills required to work
in freelance offices and offficial court proceedings. Students
achieve multi-voice dictation at 225 words per minute or better,
transcribe medical, technical, and legal testimony, use
computer-aided transcription (CAT) systems, write Realtime, and
become familiar with courtroom and freelance procedures.
Graduates may pursue career opportunities in the courts as
official court reporters, at freelance court reporting firms, or
work as independent, self-employed court reporters. The Academy
of Court Reporting and Technology has been training court
reporters since 1970 and has been certified by the National Court
Reporters Association since 1975.
Criminal Justice - Associate of Applied Business

The broad scope of the Criminal Justice program prepares students
for entry-level careers in corrections, law enforcement, and/or
security. Students examine the legal process from law
enforcement, to the courts, and through the corrections system as
well as its effect upon society. Graduates may seek careers as

The Legal Office Technology program provides training for an
entry-level career in legal office support in computerized
offices. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with
currently popular software programs as well as legal and business
applications and develops traits employers seek such as the
ability to assume responsibility, make decisions, and work
independently. Graduates may pursue career opportunities in
business, industry, or government as legal administrative
assistants, legal or executive secretaries, and law office
managers.

The Paralegal program provides training for the person seeking an
entry-level career in a law office or in a law-related
profession. The program stresses practical and specific paralegal
skills designed to meet the employment and personnel training
needs of attorneys, corporations, government agencies, law firms,
and the legal departments of banks, insurance companies, and
various business organizations. Students explore legal research,
writing and analysis, basic concepts of substantive
administrative, procedural law, acquire basic office skills, and
gain a general understanding of the ethical and professional
responsibilities of a legal assistant. Graduates may pursue

secretaries/receptionists, claims examiners and compliance and

The Security & Investigation program prepares individuals to
work in a variety of positions in the private investigative and
security fields. Students receive training in investigations,
security , and insurance disciplines along with related writing,
office and technology skills. Graduates may seek careers as a
fraud analyst, insurance investigator/adjuster, loss prevention
agent, surveillance operative, skip tracer in business, industry,
and government.
